National Park Kidepo Valley
Is one of the most beautifull places I have ever visited.. Because of the ruggedness of the terrain and the mountain ridge enclosing the park it had something special, something that is difficult to explain. The park is not as popular as say Queen Elizabeth, partly due to the distance you have to travel to get there. This has one advantage; there are not many tourists!
- Size: 1.442 km2
- Altitude: 914 m - 2,750 m above sea level
- More than 77 mammal species and 475 bird species
The park owes its name to the river Kidepo which flows through the area together with the river Narus. These two rivers disappear in the dry season after which only ponds are left from which the animals can drink. Kidepo Valley National Park is located in the north of Uganda, exactly against the border with South Sudan. The region is known under the name Karamoja.
This national park looks very vast and that is because it mainly consists of savanna. Because the amount of rain varies a lot, the vegetation and amount of game varies per year. In this park you can encounter spotted hyenas, lions, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, Cape buffalo, bat-eared foxes and Rothschild giraffes.
